Ted Williams Reunites With His Mother ...

Golden Voice Man reunites with his mother!
+ He has a contract for an advertisement!

The reunion couldn’t have been more emotional.

When Ted Williams, the now-famous homeless guy with the golden voice, saw his mother in a conference room in midtown Manhattan, he ran to her saying, “Mommy, mommy.”

His mother, Julia Williams, reached for her son.

“My prodigal son has finally come home,” she said. And the two embraced.

The reunion, delayed because of wrangling between two television networks, was the first time Ted Williams has seen his mother in about 20 years. The Dispatch, along with NBC and CBS, witnessed the emotional moment.

Julia Williams, in a fur hat and coat, talked to her son about his newfound celebrity. She was most concerned, though, about whether he had really turned his life around.

Williams assured his mom that he had. They talked a little about family members, and she teased him about telling everyone on national television that she was 92 years old.

Julia Williams is 90.

Ted Williams has appeared on many national news shows, and is scheduled to be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight. He also signed a contract with Kraft Macaroni & Cheese to be the voice in a commercial that will air on ESPN during the Fight Hunger Bowl on Sunday. The Columbus panhandler whose baritone pipes were showcased Monday in a Dispatch video and then loaded onto YouTube has captured the world’s attention.

Both Ted Williams and his mother were on national television this morning, talking about the younger Williams’ newfound fame.

Promptly at 7 this morning, Ted Williams used the voice responsible for his sudden fame to deliver the introduction of a lifetime.

From NBC News, this is Today with Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira, live from studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza!

Williams later made two appearances on the NBC talk show.

At virtually the same time, an interview with his mother was being shown on The Early Show on rival network CBS.

“This is a dream come true,” an excited Williams told Today co-hosts Lauer and Vieira. “There’s just no way in the world I could have imagined that I would have all this.”

In an early segment with the show co-hosts and a later appearance with Ann Curry and Al Roker, Williams answered a broad range of questions – from his thoughts about his newfound celebrity and the job offers he has since been offered to his history of drug and alcohol abuse and his chance for redemption.

Williams said that, despite the incredible challenges of such instant celebrity, he is emotionally equipped to make the most of the opportunity.

“This time around, I have God,” he said. “I was ready to mark 2010 as another year wasted until I realized that I’d found a new sense of spirituality.

“The difference between my successes of years gone by: I didn’t acknowledge the Lord or thank him for anything before, you know? And I have had some great opportunities.”

Williams was asked, too, about his mother – whom he hasn’t seen in 20 years, he says, but has talked to recently by phone.

With obvious affection – “I love my mom,” he said with a smile – he credited the kind, gracious demeanor he exhibits to his mother and her insistence that he live by the Golden Rule.

“My mom raised me that way – to always be polite, to treat people the way you want to be treated.”

Almost simultaneously on CBS, 90-year-old Julia Williams, a Brooklyn resident, was telling Early Show co-host Chris Wragge that her prayers for her son’s improved well-being have been answered.

“I prayed that I would live to see this time that he would do well,” she said.

Julia Williams said she struggled with the notion after hearing from family members that her son was begging for money – and that she couldn’t get through to him when they talked by phone.

“At night, I’d wake up and I’d see him with that sign,” she said, “and I would say, ‘What has happened here?’ But If I’d ask him about it, he would say: ‘Goodbye. I’ll talk to you later.’”

“So he shut me out of his life, and I can understand.”
_______
Dispatch videographer Doral Chenoweth III knew Ted Williams was special when he met him. Williams was standing at the Hudson Street ramp off northbound I-71 in Columbus, holding a sign claiming he had a God-given gift of voice. Chenoweth asked him to prove his talent on video.

Williams had trained in radio. Problems with drugs and alcohol landed him on the streets, but he never lost “the voice.” The video Chenoweth produced for Dispatch.com quickly went viral, making its way around the world. Williams suddenly began getting job offers and was sought by national news shows.

Antonio Hardy (born September 10, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York)[1] better known by his stage name, Big Daddy Kane, is an American rapper. He started his career in 1986 as a member of the rap group, the Juice Crew. He is considered one of the most influential and greatest MCs in Hip Hop.

Regarding the name Big Daddy Kane, he said: “The Big Daddy part and the Kane part came from two different things. The Kane part came from my fascination with the Martial Arts flicks when I was young. The Big Daddy came from something that happened on a ski trip one time involving a young lady.”

In 1984, Kane became friends with Biz Markie, and he would co-write some of Biz’s best-known lyrics.[citation needed] Both eventually became important members of the Queens-based Juice Crew, a collective headed by renowned producer Marley Marl. Kane signed with Marl’s Cold Chillin’ Records label in 1987 and debuted the following year with the 12″ single “Raw,” an underground hit. Kane is known for his ability to syncopate over faster hip hop beats, and despite his asthmatic condition he is acknowledged as one of the pioneering masters of fast-rap. His sense of style is renowned and set a number of late-1980s and early-1990s hip hop trends (high-top fades, velour suits, and four-finger rings). The backronym “King Asiatic Nobody’s Equal” is often applied to his moniker. His name “Kane” came from Caine from the popular TV show Kung Fu. The “Big Daddy” came from Vincent Price’s character in an old Frankie Avalon movie, Beach Party.

He released his debut album under Cold Chillin’ Records in the early summer of 1988 called Long Live the Kane which featured the hip hop hit “Ain’t No Half Steppin”. The following year, he released his second album and biggest hit to date It’s a Big Daddy Thing which included 1970s sample throwbacks like “Smooth Operator” and the Teddy Riley produced track “I Get the Job Done” which hit the R&B top 40 during the closing of the 1980s. He also had a memorable verse on the Marley Marl produced track “The Symphony” released in late 1988 which included Juice Crew member Craig G, Masta Ace, and Kool G. Rap (later remixed to include Big Pun, DMX and KRS-One).

Big Daddy Kane appeared on Patti Labelle’s 1991 effort, “Burnin’”. He provided the rap chorus to the single “Feels Like Another One”. He also appeared on the video release “Live in New York”.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers during the “golden age” of hip hop (19861993), Kane’s experimentation with R&B beats and his alignment to the Five Percent faction drew criticism. Later albums, such as Looks Like a Job For, were acclaimed, but he was never able to return to the commercial and artistic success of It’s a Big Daddy Thing. However, he still tours extensively.

As an actor, he debuted in Mario Van Peebles’ 1993 western, Posse, and appeared in Robert Townsend’s 1993 Meteor Man. Big Daddy Kane also posed for Playgirl and Madonna’s Sex book during the 1990s.

During the early 1990s, Jay-Z is known to have been Big Daddy Kanes hypeman, and Kane helped him early on in his career – Ice-T says, I actually met Jay-Z with Kane. Kane brought Jay-Z over to my house. Kane himself says that Jay-Z wasnt technically his hypeman in the true sense of the term he wasnt a hypeman, he basically made cameo appearances on stage. When I would leave the stage to go change outfits, I would bring out Jay-Z and Positive K and let them freestyle until I came back to the stage. Jay-Z was also featured on Big Daddy Kanes track Show & Prove from Daddys Home (1994), as well as in the video.
