Such a good track, I almost used this one for my David Ruffin tribute video. After an irresistable intro by bass Melvin Franklin, the other Temps kick in led by David. This is their version of the classic sung by David’s older brother Jimmy Ruffin. It really is a fab song, with the trademark angst in David’s voice and smooth backing harmonies. By the time of this recording in 1967, David Ruffin was insisting on The Temptations calling themselves “David Ruffin & The Temptations” in much the same way as Diana Ross had taken the lead name over The Supremes. It never happened and within a year, David would be banished from the group. Celebrating 50 Years of Motown, these are The Temptations with their Top Ten hit from May of 1967, “All I Need”.

Utube removed this version, i’m guessing from corporate suits pressure. Please Utube and the suits i brought it back to COMMENT on how great this song is with no expecations of anything. Yes, I am CRITICIZING them for their actions but also am TEACHING, I hope, that music should not be censored by greed in this forum of us little people and “et al”.

This song was written by Roger Penzabene as a testament to his love for his wife. After learning of her cheating he was heartbroken. He then wrote “I Wish It Would Rain’ describing his pain, then finally “I Could Never Love Another” to finish the trilogy of how he felt.

Unable to handle the extreme pain and unwilling to leave his wife, he wrote the last two songs as personal statements to her, publicizing the pain she caused him. After both songs were completed and recorded, tragically Roger committed suicide.

This is my favorite version of this song. It’s the most beautiful version. The “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” intro is from Floyd Cramer’s medley. First released August, 1980, on the Temps. Alb. “Give Love At Christmas.” The single was released in 82. The lineup for this version was: Otis Williams, Dennis Edwards, Melvin Franklin (born David Melvin English), Richard Street, Glenn Carl Leonard. Yes, Yes, Yes, there was an earlier version on the album “Christmas Card”. Released in 1970. The lineup for that version was Dennis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams. Completely different rendition though.
