***RIP TEENA MARIE. Patti loved you, and so do we.*** Patti LaBelle brings out special guest Teena Marie in her concert at Philadelphia’s Unity Day. Teena comes out and freestyles verses of “Somebody Loves You” to Patti which is just too epic while Patti turns it into “Shoe Was On The Other Foot”. You can tell there’s nothing but love there as Patti praises the “white girls who can sing like a black woman”. This entire show was very funny: Patti found a lost child and spanked him lol, called out a boy for looking around, cleared up rumors about her and Keith Sweat, she even sang “Try Again” by Aaliyah. Very eventful.

The 2009 SXSW Music Keynote speech from Quincy Jones contained many unforgettable moments. Among them was a series of stories about his work and friendship with Michael Jackson. After meeting on the set of “The Wiz,” Jackson convinced Jones to produce his next record, and went against label advice to pursue this collaboration. What ensued was history, and ‘Q’ shares his unique perspective on the blockbuster of ‘Thriller’ and the breaking of racial barriers at MTV. As we remember Michael Jackson’s music and note his deep and wide cultural impact, we thank Quincy Jones for sharing his remarkable life stories at SXSW ’09.

When an artist of the stature of Quincy Jones celebrates his 75th birthday you can be sure its going to be quite a party. The show took place on July 14th 2008 at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival, an event with which Quincy Jones has a long and rich history, and the cream of musical talent turned up to serenade Q on this very special occasion. The main concert lasted over two and a half hours and the musicians then spilled out into the bars and cafes of Montreux with the music still going strong as the sun was coming up the next morning!
